Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Baptisms
We are very happy to conduct baptisms, also known as christenings, and this short and cheerful service forms part of the Family Worship which takes place ai 9.30 am on the first Sunday of the month. If this timing is not possible, an alternative date can be arranged. Although the service is usually thought of as the introduction of an infant to the Christian faith, it is equally applicable to those of more mature years.
The parents of the child to be baptised, together with the Godparents (also known as Sponsors) play an active part in the service and are supported at this important stage in the child’s life by the congregation present.
Weddings
Marriage is one of the most important events in the life of a couple and we are delighted to make it a very special event through a Wedding Service in St Augustine’s. Everyone has the right to be married in their parish church and this is extended to those who live elsewhere, but have a connection with St Augustine’s, for example from previous residence in the parish. We can advise you on qualifying connections or, perhaps, arrange for a special licence.
Funerals
The death of a loved one is a sad occasion and it is a privilege to be able to offer pastoral support to the family. Every deceased resident of the parish is entitled to be buried in St Augustine’s churchyard and, if cremation takes place, there is a special area reserved for the interment of ashes. Dependent upon the wishes of the deceased and the family the Funeral service could take place in church or at the Crematorium followed, if wished, by a Service of Thanksgiving in church for the life of the deceased.
